Over the years the team has gone through a number of changes culminating with an incredible program and opportunity for our communities youth. As we emphasize to the kids its about the process, and we wouldn’t be here without the support of those around us. Fifteen years ago our program was started with a couple borrowed boats and a family’s cottage; now the team shares a boathouse with Eastern Michigan University with a full fleet of sweep and sculling boats. We operate as a varsity program at the high school with access and participation in an awesome strength and conditioning program ran by Barwis Methods and off season training space in the high school. We do both sculling and sweep and as a team have made a stake in the Midwest, placing 9th out of 45 overall as a team last year. Additionally we won our first regional championship in a decade and first SRAA medal in the history of the program. Check out this video showing off the team made by one of our student athletes to see what the team is like:
As we continue to grow as a team the demand for equipment becomes greater. While we are proud to be able to offer enough seats to every athlete, we have equipment in need of repair or replacement with some boats and oars starting to exceed 30 years old. To try and continue and maintain a financial advantage and offer rowing to anyone despite cost Saline Rowing began a rowathon fundraiser in 2018. This year we look to step up the expectations and the effort with a rowathon being held at Busch’s Market in Saline on February 16th and 17th.
Please consider supporting our team’s financial needs through a tax-deductible donation online or by sending a check, payable to ” Saline Area Schools”, to Saline Rowing 1300 Campus Pkwy, Saline, MI 48176. Online donations can be made here:
